Brief Introduction of School of Light Industry and Chemical Engineering

Guangdong University of technology was established in June 1995 by the former Guangdong Institute of technology, Guangdong Institute of machinery and South China Institute of construction (East Institute). It has been running for more than 60 years. It is a provincial key university with a focus on engineering, a combination of engineering, economics, management, arts and arts, and a coordinated development of multiple disciplines. In 2015, it entered the key construction universities of high-level universities in Guangdong Province as a whole.School of Light Industry and Chemical Engineering is one of the oldest schools in Guangdong University of technology. In 1958, it established the undergraduate specialty of chemical engineering. In 1986, fine chemical engineering became the first batch of master's degree authorization points in our university. In 1993, chemical engineering and technology was listed as the key discipline in Guangdong Province. In 2003, it obtained the doctor's degree authorization point of Applied Chemistry, and in 2011, it obtained the first level discipline authorization point of chemical engineering and technology.Since its establishment in 1958, the school has been following the school philosophy of "growing up together with the rise of Guangdong, contributing to the development of Guangdong". It always adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating talents, serving the local economic construction, social development and scientific and technological progress.

The school now has the Department of chemical engineering and technology, the Department of Applied Chemistry, the Department of food science and engineering, the Department of energy chemical engineering, the basic teaching center, the experimental center and the office of the school.At present, there are 158 faculty members, including 123 full-time teachers, 29 professors, 49 associate professors, 12 doctoral supervisors, 102 master's supervisors, 89% of them have doctoral degree, 65% of them have overseas experience, and 18 are postdoctoral.At present, 2031 students are in school, including 1958 undergraduates, 390 postgraduates and 43 postgraduates.At present, the school has 1 national "outstanding youth", 1 national "ten thousand talents plan" science and technology innovation leading talent, 1 national high-level talent, 2 Pearl River professors, 3 Guangdong outstanding youth, 3 young Pearl River scholars, 2 Guangdong leading talent teams, 12 provincial training objects of "one hundred and ten projects" in Guangdong Province, 2 young top talents of special branch plan in Guangdong Province, and 1 foreign academicianTwo teachers are entitled to the special government allowance of the State Council.The school has set up 15 scientific research laboratories, forming research directions with advantages and characteristics, such as catalytic new materials and their applications, clean production of high value-added green chemicals downstream of petrochemical industry, fine chemical industry and functional polymer materials, pharmaceutical and food production technology and safety control, deep processing and utilization of biological resources.

The school has the evaluation right for professors of chemical engineering and technology.At present, there are post doctoral station of the first level discipline of chemical engineering and technology, doctoral program of the first level discipline of chemical engineering and Technology (covering five second level disciplines of Applied Chemistry, chemical process, chemical engineering, industrial catalysis and Biochemical Engineering), master program of the first level discipline (covering five second level disciplines of Applied Chemistry, chemical process, chemical engineering, industrial catalysis and Biochemical Engineering).The discipline of chemical engineering and technology is one of the four disciplines in the construction sequence of the third phase "211 Project" in Guangdong Province. It has been listed as an advantageous key discipline in Guangdong Province and a high-level university construction discipline in Guangdong Province.At present, the school has one national undergraduate engineering education center, one national virtual simulation experiment teaching demonstration center, eight provincial engineering technology centers, one key laboratory of Guangdong Provincial Department of education, and one key laboratory of Guangzhou city.The total assets of the existing teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment of the school exceed 100 million yuan, and the area of the teaching and scientific research laboratory is 12000 square meters.

The school is based in Guangdong, serving the whole country and facing the world.Scientific research is closely combined with enterprise production, and actively follows the road of combination of production, learning and research. Scientific research results are widely used in enterprises.We have established a good cooperation relationship in the Pearl River Delta.In the past five years, the school has undertaken 540 scientific research projects, including 80 national projects and 4 international cooperation projects, with funds of over 110 million yuan, 2 national awards, 10 provincial and ministerial science and Technology Awards (including 3 first prizes and 6 second prizes), and 120 authorized patents.More than 1000 academic papers have been published, more than 800 papers have been included in ISTP, SCI and EI, the number of ESI citations is in the forefront of the University, more than 30 monographs and teaching materials have been published, and chemistry has entered the top 1% of ESI global disciplines.

With the rapid development of international cooperation, the school has established good cooperative relations with the relevant departments of internationally renowned universities such as Rutgers University, Georgia Institute of technology, Paris 7th National Congress of France, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Liverpool University, Kyoto University of Japan, Griffith University of Australia, etc., and sent teachers to each other for scientific research cooperation and joint training of students.

The school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' professional quality and innovation and entrepreneurship ability. It has set up "national excellent engineer class", "school enterprise joint training class", "innovation class", "printed circuit (PCB) Joint School" and other academic and technological activities, such as Lingnan Cup School students' chemical design competition, chemical creative works competition, to cultivate students' innovation spirit and practical ability.With the support of alumni and well-known enterprises, we have set up many scholarships such as "TongZhou chemical scholarship", "Jingwang scholarship", "oxcom innovation and entrepreneurship scholarship", "longhui innovation and entrepreneurship scholarship", "Zhisheng innovation and entrepreneurship scholarship" to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship and outstanding students.Since 2015, more than 30 student teams have won more than 200 awards in national and provincial science and technology and entrepreneurship competitions such as "Challenge Cup", "Internet +", "chemical design competition" and "win in Guangzhou", and more than 50 student invention patents.In 2016 and 2017, two league branches of the school were awarded the honorary title of "active League branch of the Communist Youth League of schools" by the Central School Department of the Communist Youth League. In 2017 and 2018, two league branches were awarded the title of "May 4th Red Flag League branch" of Guangdong Province.

The employment situation of graduates is ideal. Every year, many excellent undergraduate graduates go to our university or other well-known universities at home and abroad for further study. The employment rate has been maintained at over 97%. More than 80% of the graduates are employed in the economically developed cities in the Pearl River Delta. Their employment is distributed in enterprises, universities, civil servants and other units.
