Group: Fine organic synthesis and special functional materials

The group of fine organic synthesis and special functional materials with one full professor and six associate professors mainly focuses on fine organic synthesis, and the preparation of functional intelligent polymers and advanced/green composite materials. Some of the group members are awarded by "Thousand Hundred Ten" project in Guangdong Province, and "Hundred Young Talents Program" of Guangdong University of Technology, and most of them have overseas study experience in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Spain, etc. Currently 5 doctoral students and more than 20 master students are studying in the group. In the past five years, the research team has undertaken 5 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (2 general projects and 3 youth projects), 4 projects of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, more than 20 projects of Guangdong provincial funds, provincial key research, Guangzhou city key research and horizontal projects, and the total funding for these research projects has reached 4.5 million yuan. The group has published more than 300 academic papers, invented more than 10 authorized national patents, participated in the publication of 3 books, and won several prizes including the renowned second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and 10 Provincial and ministerial science and Technology Progress Award.

Main research interests include:

(1) Adamantyl functional derivatives and special covalent organic framework materials.

(2) Polymer-based nano-drug-loaded micelles and targeted controlled release technology of anticancer drugs.

(3) High efficiency halogen-free flame retardant and its advanced flame-retardant composites.

(4) Self-healing functional polymers.

(5) Environmentally responsive multi-functional intelligent hydrogels.

(6) Nanometer antibacterial polymer composites and antibacterial and antifouling polymer coatings.

(7) Natural and renewable polymers and green polymer composites

(8) Analysis and simulation of environmental microplastics.

Jianwei Guo, professor, PhD supervisor, former dean of the Department of Chemical Engineering and the deputy director of the School of Light Industry and Chemical Engineering. Professor Guo is a member of the Fine Chemicals Professional Committee of the Guangdong Chemical Industry Society, a member of the Polymer Professional Committee of the Guangdong Chemical Society, editorial board member of the Journal of Guangdong University of Technology, and the talent of the third batch of "Thousand Hundred Ten" projects in Guangdong Province. Professor Guo is a visiting scholar at the University of Brighton, UK, Aston University, UK, and University of Montreal, Canada. And he is the expert for evaluation and reviewing various projects including Ministry of Education's degree and graduate education evaluation, National Science and Technology Award, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Professor Guo mainly engaged in the research of functional molecules and advanced polymer materials and devices, and as Principal Investigator has completed over more than 20 projects of national, provincial, municipal science and technology and enterprise. Professor Guo was honored by National Science and Technology Progress Award, 7 Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 2 Municipal Science and Technology Progress Awards. Nine scientific research achievements of him passed the provincial appraisal, and 13 invention patents were authorized. Professor Guo has published more than 180 SCI- and EI-indexed papers, and supervised more than 60 postgraduates, 12 doctoral students and 5 postdocs.
